With Christmas a few days away, the Kiddies and I were in the mood for some last minute decorating. We’ve already covered the tree in beautiful store bought decorations but felt it needed a more personal touch. So we tried our hands at Salt Dough Ornaments.
Now I’ve never been much of a Betty Crocker, so I was a bit nervous when it came to making the dough. To my surprise we turned out the perfect dough for baking by using the recipe below.
After the ornaments cooled from the oven, the Kiddies had so much fun painting and stringing their master pieces.
Salt Dough Recipe
4 Cups of flour
1 1/2 cup water
1 cup of salt
Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
Combine the flour, salt and water; mix well and knead for 10 minutes. Roll out on a lightly floured surface.
Use cookie cutter to cut into desired shapes and make holes for hanging. Bake for 30 minutes; allow to cool.
Decorate with paint and glitter (if you like) and hang on tree
*Note: to preserve ornaments I would suggest spraying with clear polyurethane
